The UC Davis Art-Science Fusion Program brings together students and community members to create nature-themed art pieces that can be found throughout the Arboretum.
The newest art installation is comprised of 43 hand-made ceramic tiles that form an interlocking pattern and will be affixed to the south seatwall at the entry to the Peter J. Shields Oak Grove. Each of the 43 Oak Circle of Life Tiles represents one part of the life cycle of a mighty oak tree.
Click here to see photos of each of the 43 tiles.
Check back in mid-January to see more detailed descriptions of each tile. Email or call Suzanne Ullensvang via the contact information below if you are interested in reserving a specific tile.
The photo is a close-up image of how the tiles lock together.

The Peter J. Shields Oak Grove is located in the west end of the Arboretum, near the Gazebo, the Arboretum Teaching Nursery, and the future site of Nature’s Gallery Court.
Click here to view the location on the UC Davis campus map.
The southern wall is the wall on your left as you enter the Shields Oak Discovery Trail. The tiles for the northern bench (not pictured here) will be availalble for dedication at a later date.
Dedicating a tile in the Peter J. Shields Oak Grove supports the Arboretum’s education programs for children and families, including our partnership with the Art-Science Fusion Program. Donors dedicating a Circle of Life Tile will receive a custom inscribed plaque next to their dedicated tile, a personalized web page and a certificate of dedication.
