Red-spotted purple butterflies mimic the poisonous pipevine swallowtail butterfly. They lay eggs on the leaves of this oak, where their larva will feed as they mature.

Acorn source

Guatemala. Collected at 80 km marker on RN-I between Petzcia and Lago Atitlianon. Collected in the fall of 1966 by Lance McIntyre and Dick Hildreth.
